As usual we dinked around and had coffee and a roll, in the tabacchi this time. Then we decided to wander the neighborhood a bit, heading northeast on this occasion past the Cavour Metro station.
We poked our noses into some shops including the one above which made mosaics and, I suspect the real revenue generator, which taught tourists to do so. A subtle hint as to this was, as I was thinking that I might buy Nancy a few lessons for her birthday, I inquired of the patroness who got to the point of saying "even Italians" took her classes sometimes.
And then what? Nancy had said that she would like to go to a 12:45pm meeting but we still had lots of time. We could have continued to wander Monti but decided to get more in the environs of St. Paul's Within the Walls, the meeting place. So, we jumped on the Metro B line and made the daring move of changing to the A line for a single stop to get us to the Piazza della Repubblica. There we stopped in a fancy dancy cafe cum grocery and enjoyed the view, coffee, and excellent pastries for an hour or so.
A pretty good if small meeting sharing out of Came to Believe. My sharing about my beliefs earned me a glare as if I were Satan from one of the patrons but on the whole it went well.
After the meeting, as we were already on the A line we went on a couple of stops to Spagna and, as I did yesterday, went up to the gardens of the Villa Borghese and this time sat for an hour or so soaking up the peace, quiet, and greenery.
Then walking back to Spagna we took the elevator back down to entry level and since we were there went out to the Piazza di Spagna, the Spanish Steps. Nancy has brought along Lawrence and Giles, her long time friends being two gay stuffed parakeets. Giles is fairly reserved but Lawrence wanted to get out and see the crowds.
And then back, rush hour Metro crush removing a bit of the serene gleam just acquired. As the heat had returned a bit we both took cold showers and Nancy is taking a nap. Pretty soon we'll get roused and think about some dinner.
Back from dinner with an update (which means that Happy's charming comment will probably be deleted, a shame).
Dinner at a place we ate at the other night (and met the South African Britons). Tonight in addition to an excellent dinner we sat next to a very charming young couple from Lithuania. They were surprised that we had heard of it. He owns a ship repair company, they have three young daughters, and they're spending tomorrow at the beach (for what it's worth).
and so glad to see Lawrence out and about! Love! Happy
